VICCIFN is supporting a few new resources and tools
Two of them are the Pacific Northwest Plant Knowledge Cards and the Traditional Foods Celebration Book.
Pacific Northwest Plant Knowledge Cards
Pacific Northwest Plant Knowledge Cards highlight 65 edible and medicinal plants from the Pacific Northwest coastal region. The cards include beautiful photographs and descriptions to help identify plants, names of the plants in three different Indigenous languages, including SENCOTEN, Hul’q’umi’num, and Dididaht. The cards were inspired by Feasting for Change: Reconnecting Food, Land & Culture where Elders and Knowledge Keepers led plant walks and discussions about edible and medicinal plants
Each card describes traditional uses and ways of harvesting each plant, featuring seasonal indicators and a legend to help quickly identify uses of each plant.

Feasting for Change Celebration
This book “Feasting For Change” celebrates some of the Indigenous Foods of Vancouver Island. It was created through the teachings and leanings from our 40 events and as inspired by the diversity and wisdom of the knowledge keepers in all the communities. We know we have only begun to understand the different uses and all the teachings around these foods; this first edition is a living document and will be added to over time.
Our hope is that you are inspired to join us in celebrating the food, land and culture of Vancouver Island.
This book shares stories, teachings and tips on eating food through the seasons. Follow Feasting For Change through Spring, Summer, Winter and Fall and learn more about Salmon, Plants, Teas, Clams, Mussels, Gooseneck Barnacles, BBQ fish, bread and more!
